I disagree. The time per move is the time your opponent waits untill you move. For example, someone makes one move per 24 hours which takes him 5 minutes online . Time per move is :24 hours/move. that is the time the opponent has to wait. If we use your calculation we should say 1 move per 5 minutes. That is not a usefull statistic.
time per move

Whether you are online or not does not matter. As stated by Gert-Jan it is how long you made the other player wait. Stated another way here.

I disagree as well ... but maybe you could ask about making another stat. Perhaps you could call it time thinking? ... or at least something along those lines.
EDIT: Okay, time thinking is bad ... how about time with game?

You can never know. They could be spending most of their time doing something else like posting in the forums instead of thinking about their moves. I don't see anything wrong with the current rule.

I see nothing wrong with the current rule for the simple fact that I may not have been playing for very long, so what I say may not matter very much, but I still think that this rule is ok the way that it is currently

Keep the current rule. However, it doesn't necessarily seem to be consistent across all members. Some people jump from 5 hours per move to under 1 hour within a week which doesn't seem mathematically feasible.

well, technically it is possible. just depends on how many total games played/total moves made. if they haven't had a lot, their time per move stat could change drastically in a week.
also, this stat may be subject to location of opponents as well. if i'm playing someone on the other side of the planet, i may only be making one move per day. if i was playing someone in the same time zone, i might be making 10 moves per day, for example.

This makes sense with new members. But as you make more moves, each individual move is less important in the statistic. If the person who jumped four hours had played 1000 games with 30 moves each, they must have been playing a lot of chess that week. However If they were on their second game, its not unlikely that they jumped that much in a few moves.

ive been bitchin about that useless stat since i arrived here. I think there should a moves per day stat. If i wanna play someone i would want to know how fast they move. For example ive made 60000 moves since March 1 i dont care how you figure it, I know im movin faster than my 2and a half stat here

To the original poster:
I do not agree. I want to be able to know how much time my opponent spends on chess.com and tell if a game will go fast or slow. it would be a useless statistic if it only counted time spent at the site. It would also be very much harder to count. As of right now, the clocks for online games and time per move are linked for every player so its very easy to calculate the time it takes the person to make each move.

hi everyone...do you agree or not? you average time/move should be calculated using your actual time ONLINE...right now it's not...it includes your overall time, online and off...not that this matters unless you've been denied entrance into a fast-movers tourney!
That is as good as OTB
