Time pressure here but not at fics

In my experience I am always under the time pressure at chess.com compared to fics.  I don't think chess.com has faster players, and I don't think I play slower here.  Is there some clock/latency/lag/timestamp/software issue that is giving some players an intentional or unintentional advantage?

I am not complaining.  I have no problem with my rating, nor the behavior of any players here.  While I play slow, hence 10/0, I am not THAT slow.  Yet I am in deep time pressure every game here.

Weird; I have the opposite experience. In bullet (1 min) games, I always felt quite comfortable here, due to the lag compensation system. On the other hand, on lichess I had to premove almost everything in 1 min games, and I would still come out short in the end - that website doesn't have a lag compensation system, and, since my connection has high latency, I end up being extremely disadvantaged there.

It definitely could be me, e.g. trying harder, moving slower at new site to get a sparkling blunder free rating rebirth.   the web interface seems to have more lag on my PC so it could be my slow local hardware.

There is some lag between moves here. So in a 10 minute game you may tend to misjudge your opponent's pace. They are playing faster than it seems, so you play slower than you usually would, and get into time trouble.

In a 1 minute chess.com game this gives you a little bit of cushion because moves can't appear as fast as other sites, so you seem to have extra time compared to playing bullet elsewhere.

At least this was my experience when first coming here and playing 1, 3, and 5 minute chess (many years ago, not this account). I would have guessed that 10 minutes it wouldn't be as noticeable, but maybe you're pretty good at mirroring your opponent's thinking time.

Intuitively judging your opponent's pace in your favorite time control is a useful skill, and a hard habit to break. My advice is to periodically look at the clocks, let's say after every 5 moves, and note to yourself whether your ahead or behind.

Thanks for the tips.  On my PC, the htlm interface here is laggy (e.g. piece drag on board or editing a type window is not smooth and steady but moves in a choppy/jerky manner).  I prefer the snappy, instant interface at fics (BabasChess) but both places are fantastic resources, with different strengths.  (I'm Hardbitten there, about 1350-1400)

Solved.  Adaware Ad blocker fixed the lag on the site.  I had it off to be supportive of this nice, free site, e.g. accept ads, but found the response much crisper with it 'on'.

Everything is slower at FICS. Horrid place to play that is overrun by cheats and laggers.

In my experience, time pressure is a bigger problem here with a blue board than with a green/brown board. Go figure...

Clearly people have different experiences on every site - there's a whole range of factors involved.

In terms of what you can do here, the FAQ gives some useful tips about disconnects, which may be relevant to general slowness as well: https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/articles/1444918

There are also some connection options under Live Chess --> Settings --> Connection options that you could try and see if a different combination makes any difference:
