Time VS. Sheer Volume

Recently there have been a lot of posts popping up about blitz and if it's good in general or good for the beginner.  Having started out learning chess by playing blitz, I picked up some very bad habits like hanging pieces that are turning out to be very difficult to eradicate. I've gotten so used to blitz that I have even caught myself trying to pre-move in untimed games, lol. However, I do agree with the blitz advocates that blitz chess does allow you to play a MASSIVE amount of games during the day.  You can't argue with math folks!! So what I was hoping to do with this thread is to come to some kind of agreement on a time limit that would allow a player to get in a decent amount of games during the day, but also allow you some time to think before moves and not just "hot potato" with opponents all day long.  I really appreciate any suggestions, as I really want to start working on that pattern recognition. Thank you very much for the reply Anthony, I'll try the 30 min. mark and see how many games I can get in during the day. H.G.
