Recently there have been a lot of posts popping up about blitz and if it's good in general or good for the beginner. Having started out learning chess by playing blitz, I picked up some very bad habits like hanging pieces that are turning out to be very difficult to eradicate. I've gotten so used to blitz that I have even caught myself trying to pre-move in untimed games, lol. However, I do agree with the blitz advocates that blitz chess does allow you to play a MASSIVE amount of games during the day. You can't argue with math folks!! So what I was hoping to do with this thread is to come to some kind of agreement on a time limit that would allow a player to get in a decent amount of games during the day, but also allow you some time to think before moves and not just "hot potato" with opponents all day long. I really appreciate any suggestions, as I really want to start working on that pattern recognition. H.G.
