Timed tactics improving your results?

Hi everyone. I was wondering if doing the tactics while being timed seems to make you a stronger player. Have many of you had positive results? I know it's core training to solve tactics daily, but how much is it helping IMPROVING players to be timed? If a person is master level tactically but still has an A rating OTB is that an indication they're probably still lagging behind the level they can really play?

don't worry about the timing. the timing is only there for the rating aspect of it. we should hide that darn timer by default...

I think tactic rating is only a tiny piece of the puzzle that makes of the rating.

In opening play you may be ratet 1500

tactics you may have 1800

middle game 1600

endgame you may be ratet 1700

timed tactics is really helpfull in 10 minutes game there a single tactic can win the game or save the game.

If a player uses up all their allotted time on the tactics test but still is able to solve it completely, does it still count as getting it wrong? I've only attempted 105 as of right now (77 right) but feel nervous about the time as I'm thinking about it. I would probably be well over 90% if I could really think about them as though it were an actual tournament game without having only 1 or 2 minutes total for it. I keep worrying about the darn clock affecting my score.

I guess this is a problem  I experienced as well.

but I suddenly realized that I don't need a the rating - I need the improvement.

therefor if I manage to see a tactic within 10 seconds that means tactics trainer works.

but if I can't solve it I'll look at the tactic till I see something I want to try.

like Josh Waitzkin says "the more you stretch your brain the more you learn"

the only thing that annoys me in tactics trainer is that the time reveal how hard the tactics is. if it is a really easy task you will only get 50 seconds.

I think all rating tactics should have the same timer. even the easy should have 300 seconds. this way you cannot tell that you only have 50 seconds.

Timed tactics make you better at tactics. The goal of tactics training isn't to test your calculation skill. It's to train your pattern recognition. Since the board won't light up "There is a tactic here, start finding it" in the game, you have to develop your ability to instantly recognize key tactics.

Yes, yes, yes. It's been a massive part of me improving roughly 400-500 points in a little over a year.

I prefer long, 4 minute tactics. That way i have lots of time to make my move and can think things through

TT is essential for Chess improvement.

However you do need a rating system to measure that improvement, turning the clock off stops that happening.

This site cannot get the message that some users, want a rating with say 2 minutes standard time.

Tactics is not about thinking, but about pattern recognition.   Repetition and speed help you obtain a tactical eye.

I think both skills are important - at least in long games. You have to calculate, but it's very helpful if you immediately recognize the pattern in the position - but as long as you are not in time trouble, even then it's helpful to verify your pattern recognition by a bit of calculation :)

In blitz the pattern recognition is essential of course as there is no time for calculation.
