Timer question - I'm confused

His vacation ran out/he turned it off so he got 4 hours added to his clock.
Thanks. His vacation time ran out vs ending the vacation timer. Sadly, he still ran out of time and lost the game. Them about 30 minutes later he sent me a challenge to play again.
How do I go about submitting a position for a daily puzzle. Every time I went back to look at our paused game, I didn't feel like I was looking at our active game so much as I was looking at one of the daily puzzles.

I'm playing a daily game with a 3-day timer. My opponent was low on time, so he turned on vacation mode. Vacation mode ran out, and his remaining time was down to 5 minutes. When I came back an hour later, he had not made a move, but now he has 4 hours remaining. How did he add 4 hours versus losing the game on time? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather win via skill than a timer flag. Especially this game. I'm in a superior position, but importantly, it's an interesting position and I'd prefer to play it out.
