- Download Chess Position Trainer (IN downloads section on this site.) 40 dollars but worth every cent. With this program you can train on your opening reportoire and other stuff. I am currently entering in the Final Theory of Chess (Free to view online-use Google search.) This is a complete opening reportoire for white and black. Or develop your own or use any that you can find that appeal to you. (Over the years this reportoire will change as chess theory and your own personal desires and tastes change.
- Download the SCID database program. (Open source - means its free)
- There is a learning curve on SCID and CPT. (If my old, stupid brain can learn to use them so can you.
- Play mostly online games and review each and every game as you finish them.
- You will probably lose many games before you start winning. (This is true for the overwhelming vast majority of people.
- Read other classic books such as: 1. MY System-Nimsovich 2,The Art of the Attack-Vukovic 3. Pawn Power in Chess-Kmoch (Start with Silman)
- Buy premium membership at chess.com so that you can use the tactics trainer and especially the video lessons. (The video lessons are especially helpful-start with Daniel Rensch's (sp) lessons.)
- IN my opinion you should avoid blitz and bullet until you are solid in your basics and opening reportoire.(It reinforces bad habits and ideas.
- Study end games so that you recognize what you are trying to achieve in the opening and middle game.
