There is no trick but patterns and practice.

For example, can ur brain handle

2x2=4, yes

22x22=484, ah yes, but harder now.

222x222, no way for most people.  But some people can figure out.

The same in chess, formula ( pattern recognition) and practice.

Just do a lot of tactics.

It's the same for anything in life: practice the skill you want to improve.

For example spend a long time on a single tactics puzzle, being sure to go slowly and accurately.

You can also open up a game, for example from chessgames.com. Use the notation to visualize the game as far as you can. Once you start to lose track of it go to that move to see if you're imagining it correctly and then keep going through the whole game like that.

Of course this advice assume you're mostly an online player. If you play OTB then do exercises using a real board. Set up tactics on your board to calculate them, and go over games / analysis from books on your board.

Playing a lot of long games (OTB or online) is also good practice.

So basically just do it. Ok.

I have a few tips that have worked for me. I have dabbled in blindfold chess and it does work. Also watching top rated games on chess.com and trying to calculate lines in real time as if you're playing helps blitz calculations.
