Titled Tuesday: The Worst Rework of all time

Chess.com just did a huge L with the Titled Tuesday rework.

Rework 1) Titled Tuesday will only have a single tournament each week

Great job, Chess.com, you just killed off half your player base. Most titled players have outside lives, and simply could only play 1 event. Also, it's on a Tuesday. A workday. How is any average Joe going to have time to play that? (School, work, ect.) Personally, I couldn't even play, since school days took up all my time for BOTH Titled Tuesdays.

Also, pay's been reduced by 50%, since you've canceled 50% of the events.

2 events a week simply allowed a much greater degree of flexibility for most Titled players, while competitive GM's had 2 shots for glory. This rework is a strong lose-lose situation for everyone.

Rework 2) New time control 5+0:, replacing 3+1:

We need a real-time control. The problem here is that, without increment, the game becomes more dependent on luck than skill. 3+1 was already an extremely fast time control, where flagging was completely possible. 5+0 forces players to think less and pace the clock from the very start of the game.

Rework 3) New proctoring requirement for all participants

I am extremely against Proctor. It literally is a spying app disguised as a "fair play program."

To make sure players are playing fair, Proctor captures:

  • The computer's screen
  • The programs running
  • Video camera feeds
  • Audio inputs and outputs

Ok, basically everything! So, I've basically waived all my rights to some anonymous chess.com staff member, to simply play against other Titled players! Is it really necessary to do all of this? Just make us join a Zoom meeting instead.

What is this, 1984?
