@trysts

If your body is aroused by playing chess, then you are the woman of my dreams!  Laughing

I think that arousal was meant here in the sense of increased heart rate, sweating etc.

Oh thanks, captain obviousLaughing

I do not have an issue with pressure or stress. I keep cool. Cool

I am not saying I have no emotion in chess. I get very grumpy with myself when I blunder in live games. I always listen to music when I play in tornemants or in a park, so maby the music helps the stress?

You could try listening to some music.

It does however feel like a form of anxiety. Do you feel similar sensations in other aspects of life John?

I used to be like that but now I play when I am drunk, easier to say aw f**** it, what ever.  ENJOY the GAME.

Yeah baby, yeah!

If you get too excited, try playing some chess; that should bore you pretty well.

JP-Syri

I have similar emotions and very much excitement. I have often thought if it's good or bad for my game. It can be good because it stimulates and helps concentration, I suppose, but on the other hand, it maybe causes problems to cool-headed thinking. Do I sound a bit fool??
About the music: I think it maybe isn't a good idea, because it disturbs you while playing. But of course I can be wrong. Does anybody have good results with the music? Doesn't it get your thoughts off the game?

play about 100 unrated live timed games before you start playing rated.  By that time you should be used to it and it will be no big deal.

Yes, when you get that nervous, just try to think it's only chess and that THIS situation is supposed to be what you are enjoying. Still not working for me though... I'm still a nervous wreck.

quadrewple

I experience exactly what you described when I make a move and the opponent thinks for a while and while he's thinking about his move I see a really good attacking idea or a really good move that I missed.  It's actually pretty awesome....a little bit of adrenaline without any real danger.

Also when I get in this mode, it feels like I'm able to scan the board for threats and possible attacks faster and more thoroughly than when I'm not as excited.

waffllemaster

To those that say this type of thing helps you play I think the OP is talking about a negative experience e.g. it's harder to calculate and it's nervousness/anxiety not excitement.

To the OP.  I would feel a bit like that when I started, but not as bad as you're describing.  After losing my first hundred games or so I stopped worrying about it.

Yes, but it goes away after many games (say a few hundred).

Mine was definitely more pronounced when playing OTB... less so for live chess.

Thank you, finally someone with a helpful comment. Same for waffle master.

A Night Train a day keeps the DTs away.

Well, gotta say this thread's title is totally misleading...I assumed someone finally invented a non-sucking way of a Strip Chess variation...

No, my friend. It always comes down to whom you're playing...and who deserves a webcam nowadays: common sense is not that well distributed as you might think, as Dèscartes implied. Back to the topic, I find it hard to give a chess game too much of a bother, unless I'm losing money on the stash. If so, I'm afraid some alcohol will have to make my day a tad less catastrophic.

This is real

Timed chess game can be similar to fighting in the Boxing Ring

Especially when the clock approaches 0:59 Sec !

I had a similar experience

Hand shaking towards the end of one of my games.

I was winning in terms of leverage, but time was not on my side.

I eventually won the game.

But that brought an hyper feeling

I did Cardio this morning trying to normalize the pulse
