why do you think so?
Too many draws
Who don't like just not accept the draw and continue.
Anyway if it will be abolished just repeat the position 3 times and the draw is easy anyway to do.
This is more important re. games in tournaments. The spectators and the sponsors want fighting chess, and they often do not get that when the players agree to draw after 7 moves or 30 moves.
Chess is the only field where the players themselves can agree to a draw; this is not possible in soccer or in tennis or in boxing. Granted, chess is very different, but still I would prefer a system where the players play until the end.
The great Dvoretsky writes:
"It often happens that, after a day at work, chess fans come to the tournament only to find an empty stage. This is particularly painful during matches. For example, in the December 2001 match between Kasparov and Kramnik in Moscow, 3 out of 4 games played with classical time controls ended in quick draws. Of course, those were not pre-arranged draws – they were rather the results of over-developed opening preparation, but nevertheless spectators often felt cheated. Similar, if not more, unpleasant situations occur at tournaments too. For example, the last round of the USA Championship in 2003 drew many spectators, including children and TV crews. And what did they see? A few minutes after the round started, their pair of leaders drew their games! Needless to say the kind of impression this made on spectators, including the sponsors. "

In tennis and boxing draw not exist.
In soccer yes.
I remember some accorded draw in order to pass the turn, here in Italy the most popular is (but there's many others)
Sweden-Danmark 2-2 , europe 2004
And there's also al lot of combine like Brazil-Norvegia 2-1 (WorldChamp 98)...
Anyway, I'm agree, spectators preferes no drawing matchs, but it's part of the rule and we have to accept.
i disagree. The competition among humans in all activies is a sort of illness. it seems as if aliens have created human being to this purpose, wars, capitalism, competition. Man, people is crazy because of competition. The competition creates tension , and tension can bring out the worst of yourself. (cheating, racism, violence...)
A draw by agreement relieve the stress of competition. No everyday you need to win a game, no everyday you play with the same enthusiasm . The humans are not machines , they can not play perfect games in every round, they need inspiration, a break...
My agree was not for the rules, it was for the fact that the spectators preferes no drawings matches.
Sure something can always be better and change, but actually not really the drawings rules in chess.
Five... "its often because it would be a draw anyway if they played the position out."
OK then let them play it out!
Should take up Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi !
Cannot ask for draws and there is a special very rare occurance where draws are agreed!? The game is so tactical (pieces that you capture from your opponent can be droped on the board as one of your own!)
Shogi is a very tactical game and because pieces drops are a feature of the game, king safety is paramount!
I have the opposite problem. Only 6% draw in onlinegames. In bullet i guess its ca 1%. Maybe I play slightly too sharp? Against Vegma i have a huge number of losses. Draw would have been better.
overall if you want less draws and more drama then just watch lower rated games
or just change the points awarded for each result
0.5 point for draw , 2 points for win.
or
1 point for draw , 3 points for win
no need to change any rules , just increasing the reward for winning will provide a bigger incentive to play on........
Playing golf by match play rules you may concede a putt which ties the hole. If you do this if all square on the 18th hole you tie the match. Hence, a draw.
This idiotic spectator-based thinking is what will kill classical chess more than draws.
but if chess wants to reach out to a wider audience , with more tournaments , more publicity , more media coverage , then its only reasonable that spectators enjoyment of the game is at least considered
In Go/Baduk/Weiqi, draws are prevented by giving white (which, unlike chess, does not go first) a half point, guaranteeing an unequal result.
You could implement a rule that in chess, a draw counts as a win for black, but it's a different sort of game.
Since the only meaningful argument against draws in tournament chess seems to be that people who aren't the two people playing the game don't like it, why not suggest something more appropriate than banning draws?
For instance, a draw by agreement will not grant any points, even fractional, toward your tournament standing, or some such coersion. Your rating would be affected as normal, but you wouldn't get paid. And maybe it would affect your invitation status to subsequent tournaments.
Then spectators could be happy, because prepared GMs could just stay home.
If both players have given it their all and the position has become really drawish then I see no problem with a draw being agreed. Better to agree a draw and move onto the next game than waste time making no progress.
I think its also an issue of courtesy. If someone's attack has ran out of steam and the best they can play for is a draw and their opponent has no counter-attacking chances and is happy to draw then it seems a fair enough outcome.
They should take the idea of chess boxing but not have separate rounds for each sport. The chess and boxing should occur simultaneously. No chairs.
As you're trying to make your move on the chessboard, you should be dodging and firing punches as well. And if you accidentally punch the board or pieces, you will be ejaculated from the game.
Draw by agreement should be abolished. The only criteria for a draw should be:
