I like the idea of this thread though it’s old indeed. OP seems te be looking for soundbites, little rules (always with exceptions).

In opening: knights before bishops
In opening: connect your rooks

Whole game: knight in the rim is a grim

And a personal one: when I get forked by a knight I always shout: how does the horsie jump?!

I like to hear more.

Open up the position when you have the bishop pair or active rooks.
