Tell me your 5 favorite chess personalities - can be a gm, streamer, youtuber, commentator or anyone that is involved in chess! And write a little bit why you like them so much.
My top 5 is:
1. GM Vladimir Dobrov - a.k.a tortugachess - excellent russian streamer, very real, very down to earth. Incredible sense of humour and also very fun chess style, he has such a deep understanding, he does stuff like sac a queen for a piece and 2 pawns and crushes his opponent positionally.
2. Yasser Seirawan - amazing storyteller, very positive personality, soothing voice. Everything hes involved in somehow turns out epic every time!
3. Jan Gustafsson - a real hard worker, together with Peter Svidler i think he has secured his spot in the hall of fame of commentary by his constant high quality analysis. Has been consistantly delivering for many years, i love the effort. Very likeable character, he's just someone i wish to do well at all times. Terrace House ftw!
4. Magnus Carlsen - there is no doubt he is pretty much the best world champion chess world can expect to have. Outspoken, honest, emotional. The chess world has seen a huge upswing since he has been the world champion. Imagine someone like Karjakin or Ding being the world champion instead, we would never see things like Magnus Carlsen invitational or long bullet matches with Firouzja happen.
5. Hikaru Nakamura - has been doing a lot of things for online chess lately. His ability to play fast while commentating is unmatched. One of the sharpest minds out there, even if he continues to slump in classical chess, his influence on online chess continues to build up his legacy for years to come. Things like partner streams with xQc make me believe he might become one of the main chess personalities to make chess go mainstream very soon.
