In a tournament, how do age categories work? Can you be part of let's say a U16 section if you're already 16?

Not familiar with Romanian chess tournament rules. In the US tournaments are subdivided by rating. The U16 you reference would mean under 1600 rating section

I would not think so, Krestez. Every federation normally has some kind of cut off date (Usually Dec31). If you turn 16 before that, you have to play up.
