Traders Are The Worst (or, "Why not just play checkers")

i dont have a problem with him disliking people who trade a lot but I do have a problem with him assuming that they're playing "bad" chess and implying that it's against moral code to trade. And throwing insults like "homeless" etc etc (im not gonna bother reading it again) is definitely not classy

DasBurner

right but I didnt say anything about that. I just have a problem with the snarky, uppity way the OP presented his argument

suntian

it can be annoying but you can't do anything about how they play

IcyAvaleigh
they should just learn to improve their own game. if everyone trades against the OP and the OP still loses, somehow the OP made mistakes during the game because

- if the OP did not make mistakes it should have been a draw after trading

- if the OP played without mistakes, trading actually improved the position for their opponents and this means those "bad players" actually outsmarted the OP

What motivates a player to do this? Laziness. Depression. Lack of tactical skill, etc...

In any case, I find there are a LOT of players here on Chess.com who are basically just passing time, using chess as an excuse not to go anywhere or do anything

So just think that that is dirty and very low-class:  these pathetic anti-strategies

Is there a way to avoid these incarcerated, homeless time-wasters?

Can players be flagged for purposefully playing bad chess?

Get better, increase your rating. And then you wont see as much of pointless trading the higher you go. 1500 and above people start using actual plans and calculated trades.

The OP should really like my last game then.  I decided to try something different to throw my opponent off his game.

BlunderTest

The secret is to allow them to aggressively trade, while continually improving your position with each recapture.

This is something that might fly over your head at your current level, but the stronger you get, the more it will begin to make sense.

Eventually, you'll reach a point where an aggressive piece-trader becomes extremely easy to beat (and thus, no longer annoying).

Have you all tried out the WAP Gambit by any chance?

What? That you blundered a rook? And he wasn't even trying to trade so hard too. I didn't understand the logic.

I meant that I was going out of my way to trade like a mad man.  I was hoping that nobody would notice that I blundered my rook happy.png

In other words, I was being ironic.
