Mozart of Chess - Paul Morphy

If you have not heard of Paul Morphy then you need to familiarize yourself with the man and his games. When I first really started to study chess, I remember going over his games and a certain clarity hit me; his games were fascinating because of his clean, logical style. His game made understanding chess easier and complete. A true genius on the board. Go here https://www.chess.com/blog/Innominata/paul-morphy-the-mozart-of-chess-and-the-games-first-revolutionary

and it may teach you a thing or two about how to play the game the way it ought to be played, the way it taught me.

If you are a true chess fan, you have heard of the great Paul Morphy and have seen a few of his games. Go see the blog anyway for he is the original Mozart of Chess.

Morphy was the original giant of the game; the one that stood tall, head and shoulders above his contemporaries. Without declaring it himself, he is the "Godfather of Modern Chess".

Paul Morphy is my first favorite player. I admire his games a lot, simple yet elegant.

I saw a video where a guy described Morphy as being "born in the wrong generation" and while that's often considered a very annoying phrase by many, I think it's exactly right. If he had been born a century later, there would have been a lot of folks who could have given him a challenge, and he might have stuck around a bit longer as a result.
