As my grandfather says, "hope springs eternal."
Triage

I really like the 'triage analogy' you point out. My sister is a nurse, and was the first to inform me of "triage" (as it's not just a term for military nursing by any means). But I never thought of it being implemented in chess! Very nice, serchi4bobF

This is not bad advice, and not resigning is a personal choice...just like your resigning is a personal choice. Everyone has to do what feels right for them...not their opponent!

Thanks all for your comments. Hmm... resigning wasn't the point of my little post. The post was about "perspective."

....Puroi's point of view suites him, you see "you cannot teach someone who struts with the jewels of life's knowledge in one hand and his family jewels in the other, anything new." Michael Jackson 1987

simple triage definition: the sacrifice of quality for quantity in order to optimize resources when time is limited. exp., in a military sit' where multiple soldiers are wounded, doctors amputate limbs that could have been saved by means of constant scrubbing, treating, and rebandaging, but they use the time it would have taken to extract bullets and remove shrapnel from others instead, etc.
Hey guys, I thought I would share some philosophy. Chess really is very much like life. Some of my best victories have been the result of something I have profoundly dubbed "triage." I guess I could even go farther and split it into "pre triage" and "post triage." It is kind of a contradiction to put a "pre" in the front of the word triage considering that triage is a word used to describe a military nursing method for salvaging resources by basically tending to the one's who could be saved, opposed to: first come, first serve. Anyway, I try and use pretriage before I make a move by asking myself, "which move will give me the most flexibility?" Every time I start to get excited about a potential combo, I have to remind myself that I don't even know what my opponent is going to do yet! It is really teaching me not to get emotionally attached to a position (or piece). Speaking of pieces, that brings me to my next point, post triage. An example of post triage would be: you've fallen into a fork and you have a choice between losing your queen or your knight. Losing your queen would definitely suck, but upon further investigation you realize that by saving her, you get mated in 4 moves. I use the word triage as a way of saying "just let her go dude." Funny, I've actually had to do this with real life women, lol. Anyway, maybe by letting her go, you pick off another minor or two and give mate with a pawn!
