The point is what you stated, time. If you use up your clock you lose, regardless how good your moves are. In the game it looks like you actually got the idea how to counter it. Don't get materialistic and try to capture all the pieces. You have to look for the win and prove your position is winning.
In this case, even castling can be a waste of a move!!
Yes, that's the game. I didn't want to post it because I didn't want to call out a specific player, but I guess it's OK. Yeah, I missed the win on move 11 for sure, and made it hard for myself. But still, this player obviously knows as much about chess as I do...just wondering why start with a4, a5, h3?
OK, my current rating is 1380. Ranging from 1300 to 1400 most days. I just played a guy 1350, who opened with a4 and second move a5, then h3 for third move. Meanwhile I have the center and have started pushing out pieces. The he defends pretty well for a long time. I eventually win, but short on time, while he has plenty. I could have blundered and lost. This guy is good enough to hold me off for a long time, even though I have an advantage, so he knows how to play at least a bit. What is the point of opening like this?! Is it a troll of some kind? Is it just some kind of handicapped practice?
