I've done exercises like this with winboard.
It automatically allows you to move by typing in a move. For example after opening the program if I type "e4" and press enter, the move is made for me.
So I can hide the board off-screen and just see the move list while playing.
Hmm, I don't know why you don't want to see an empty board, but if you're willing to hide the board off-screen, then Arena will also do it. (You can specify invisible, blindfold piece fonts). It will also announce your opponent's moves if you choose that option.

Hello i am looking for chess software to play blindfold against. I have chessmaster and can play semi blindfold ( can see board not pieces ) and have chessspeak where you talk to the computer and it talks back but i have issues with speech recognition. So what i need is a program that shows no board and allows you to enter notation to make moves. For example i would type e2 e4 to start the game. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.
