gdzev  thank you for your input. In tic tac toe does moving first mean the player who moves first should win?

Did you know checkers has been math analyzed to a draw? And it does not matter that one side moves first?

Did you know that some believe that Black should win chess?

not gdzev.

thank you for your input.

but we are not talking about tic tac toe

See, for some people 500 words is nothing.  That's 1 page.  And in modern society where people can't even read news articles and need YouTube videos with single line subtitles to make everything easy enough for them to understand, we all need to read a lot more.  When that chucklehead Colby was around, he mentioned that he had to switch to audiobooks just to read The Lord of the Rings.  A trilogy I read at the age of 10, now portrayed as too complex to  consume by a professed law student in his 20s.  I mean, what if he tried to read Faulkner?  Humanity is being dumbed down to a worrying degree.

500 words is nothing to me.  My reply to you was not any longer than posts I make every week (as you know, by now).  So no need for any apologies.

they feel like they have to prove everything they believe.. etc.

Cool, let me try one:

Only shallow people post everything one line text message style and cannot string together a single paragraph of substance.

They feel like the world is an extension of their smartphone and can't relate directly to anyone...etc.

Gee, it's sure easy to toss out one liners.  Damn, I still capitalized my sentences, though...too much effort/thought showing... wink.png

i didnt defend "one-liners" but you failed to defend wall-of-texters..

writing for pages is a way of telling people that you are weird and you dont want any opposition. or you write another tons of lines which people really dont want to read.

speak simple, tell your thoughts briefly, only answer detailed when you are asked.

people can tell their points in a few sentences. try it, its not too hard.

Careful, you may be edging towards "you have to prove everything you believe".

Let's talk about walls of text though.  This is a term used to describe a 500 word page without paragraph breaks... ergo, "wall of text".  No line breaks, no indenting, solid wall of text.

A 1-page post that with line breaks and paragraphs is not actually a wall of text.  However, the less erudite among us have co-opted this term for their TL;DR culture, and use it to try to shame anyone that actually posts anything that takes longer than 15 seconds to read.  This is their way of trying to force fit their world into the bite-size chunks they can handle.

Ahh, so you're not trying to make a point, you're just a tool.  Noted.

500 words is two pages unless your font is too small.

stassneyking

Probably, but this has not been proven since there are still decisive games all the time at the highest computer level.

Infidel_Catto

Google this:  words per page single spaced

And you will get this:

500 words

For a page with 1 inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman font, and minimal spacing elements, a good rule of thumb is 500 words for a single spaced page and 250 words for a double spaced page.
Note how they can even spot you the serif font and still get 500 words per page.

Yes. My mistake. I always require double-space, so 250 words per page has been the norm for the many thousands of college essays that I've graded.

My response was posted in the middle of my office hours and I've been fielding questions all morning about length for a paper due next week. I forgot that single-space exists.
