True or False Chess is a Draw with Best Play from Both Sides

I think that chess is basically a draw, because no matter what colour Fischer played against Larsen or Taimanov, he won.

@bigpoison: Why do you ask about the Himalaya? Is there any famous salt pillar in the Himalaya that reminds you of the wife of Lot?

I just noticed forgot to put the most interesting game of the 7

1 random 1/2   ponz111  1/2

This has a very interesting ending

Cross-thread kidding with Ziryab.

as per the other thread "the yolk was almost on me!" [the game with the fish swatting]

Ziryab

Thanks for posting the evidence that Black is winning in the Ponziani. That's a start.

Ziryab  you are welcome but please realize I know the Ponziani maybe as much as anybody anywhere and I can make it look as winning or losing or drawish  Tongue Out

We're looking for the truth of the position. Your knowledge is necessary to your argument. The question is whether your opponents' play was optimal.

ponz111

In the 5 games I won I can point to a specific move where my opponents made a mistake.   Sometimes more than one move.

There is not 100% probability but considering billions of games have been played and not one game was ever won with out someone making an error-I would say the odds of tens of billions of games to 1 is as close to certainty as you will ever get.

Nothing is absolute determinability. So by that reasoning there are no proven facts.  However I will take my tens of billions to 1 as close to fact as we can get.

No, that last statement is false. Tic-tac-toe is a 100% draw with perfect moves from both players. There is literally no way to ever win unless your opponent makes a mistake.

As for chess, it's probably a draw with best play but no one has proven this as a fact (yet).

Probably. You're right, it hasn't been proven beyond all doubt.

I am at least 95% sure chess is a draw. Everything we know about chess shows that chess tends to be a draw. I could enumerate the reasons, but after more than 1800 posts, it would just be adding to the noise.

Anyone who seriously postulates that chess is not a draw with best play by both sides is either ignorant of the evidence or a troll. There is a preponderance of evidence showing the drawish nature of chess, and absolutely no concrete evidence that shows that white has a winning advantage.

There was even a troll who argued that the game could be a forced win from the Black side.

Ziryab

Winning is simple: make an error. If your opponent is human, the error will be matched and raised with a more significant error.

ponz111

I am 99.99% sure chess is a draw when neither side makes a mistake.

Also the Ponziani is not refuted despite my games with Black against that opening.

Dear ponz,

It's been an wild ride. A heck of alot of events have happened since (before you'd even declared, definitively in your last quote-99.99%?! sure). Namely, the last WCC where it was an lopsided victory for Magnus. Even these past few events have been categorized as more wins than draws. Meaning, your assessments are obsolete as the iPhone5 or galaxy5. Give it up.

How does that follow? Undecided

It follows four weeks after the previous post.

It is merely the work of a troll trying to restart a dormant argument.

najdorf96

"Bump".

"Merely the work of a troll trying to restart a dormant argument".

Huh? I hope you weren't referring to me (as the troll) sir. As it is obvious I wasn't trying to restart anything.

Re:

Quote #1823...

namely, where I said, " give it up."

Cool?

ponz111

Najdorf96 the recent world championship match helped to confirm my idea that I am 99.99% sure that chess is a draw.

As, I'm sure, would any piece of evidence regardless of its actual content.
