Ugandan chess prodigy from the slums

That is not true. In the west, chess players are mostly poor.

I am personally up for helping her. Any idea how we can get her some help?
A truly inspiring article - brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for posting.

what's her ELO?
CNN reports she won her Candiate Master's Title at the 40th Chess Olympiad. She is also the Chess Champion of Africa, it has also been reported that Disney Productions will be doing a Movie on the incredible life story of this child prodigy !

Yes you're right, and the CNN report is already on U-Tube! Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol0XY60N5ho
And there are quite a few other videos on her. Her chess career has just taken off now! As Tryst said before, I don't think that chess is a preserve of rich people / kids in the West. When I was young, the best player in my hometown (about 2100 elo) was a factory worker, who had left school very early to start work.

CNN did a follow-up on her today , but there is ANOTHER child prodigy an 8-year old from connecticut according to the blogs played her to a "draw" during a performance at the ESPN studio in bristol ct. as she defeated the entire ESPN staff playing on a giant chessboard !
I've just come across an article in "The Guardian" which I wanted to share. It's about a very promising young Ugandan chess player who's reached a very good level despite her extremely poor background and not having access to chess books or the Internet ("awe-inspiring" says the Chess correspondent).
