Unable to get over 1000 RAPID - Frustrating
Frankly I am trying to improve just by playing and playing...got to 984 and then bounced back. Keep going up and down
Dont care about opening theory at all until 1200 elo because it is hard to understand for beginers why you should play certain move at certain time. Just try to understand some basic principles how to play middlegames well (when to trade pieces or not, how to build a successfull attack for example), Learn how to play king pawn endgames and rook and pawns endgames.
I am unable to get pass 1000 rating in RAPID.
Getting closer, and then bouncing back. That's frustrating. Any advice?
You need to set a more realistic goal first. "Getting closer, and then bouncing back" shows that your "close" rating is not stable. It's likely at your peak, and your current playing strength is about 875 based on your current rating.
A more realistic target is to first try and attain a consistent rating of say 925 first. Slowly, this will only build on and then you will find yourself hitting a new peak of 1000, before eventually even consolidating this 1000 rating and reaching a further peak.
Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it.
This little mental discipline alone is enough to reach 1500.
The biggest reason people struggle in lower-level chess is because of blunders. They make them in almost every game.
A mistake can instantly put you in a bad position, no matter how well you played earlier: if you had great opening knowledge, great positional skills, great endgame skills, whatever; a single mistake can change everything (you lose a piece or get checkmated).
So, how do you avoid blunders? Follow this simple algorithm:

While avoiding blunders is crucial, I also share a few basic principles with my students. These principles help them figure out what to do in each part of the game - the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. Understanding these simple principles is like having a map for your moves. I provide my students with more advanced algorithms that incorporate these fundamental principles. When you use this knowledge along with being careful about blunders, you're not just getting better at defending. You're also learning a well-rounded approach to chess. Keep in mind, chess is not just about not making mistakes; it's about making smart and planned moves to outsmart your opponent.

Good advice

Wrong. Beginners do not know much. I did not reach 1500 until learning about active pieces, castling, protecting the king, using tempos, pawn storms, mating nets, and simple tactics. Of course, also check your move is not a blunder before you play it.
