Under Ratings on Chess.com?

I’ve noticed players rated at 1800 play around 1900 or 2000 level on chess.com. I’ve searched the forums and can’t find anything on this precieved ratings deflation. I’m actually just curious - taking a pole.

Post your FIDE or USCF ELO rating and your chess.com rating. I think we’re all a touch stronger than what our ratings reflect on this site.

ill go first my USCF rating is 2020 my Chess.com rating is ~1804

USCF 1437 (but haven't played a tournament in quite a while)

Blitz 962 (I'm horrible at this)

Rapid 1573

Daily 1514

So some things I am underrated, others overrated.

I should have specified “blitz” or “rapid”. I figured most play 5 or 10 minute games. My chess.com rating is entirely based on blitz. Just fyi, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the ratings on this site at all! The ELO system is what it is, I just noticed that 1800 and mid-1700 player on this site play some damn good speed Chess.

I’m curious if 1800-2000 players on this site have higher FIDE and USCF ratings. They play excellent at times. I expect many are masters and experts.

They don't use the Elo system. They use the Glicko system. http://www.glicko.net/glicko.html

I’m 1565, so as you can see most of my ratings are around that (maybe a bit under in some sections

This has been done quite a few times. I think the latest proper collection of ratings was in 2015 (with almost 500 rating entries). There was one also in 2016, but it had only 100 or so samples, so you could say it wasn't as accurate. Of course ratings have probably changed a bit since 2015, but you could still get the general idea.

I'd work on your english.

Or imitate great poetry like Suzanne Somers:

“Organic Girl:”

Organic girl dropped by last night
For nothing in particular
Except to tell me again how beautiful and serene she feels
On uncooked vegetables and wheat germ fortified by bean sprouts
Mixed with yeast and egg whites on really big days
She not only meditates regularly, but looks at me like I should
And lectures me about meat and ice cream
And other aggressive foods I shouldn’t eat.

USCF: 1702, Blitz: 1573(used to be 1705 when I was in shape), bullet: 1539, daily: 1623(I bullet my daily games), rapid: 1615 (I know I should be higher rated)

Thank you so much for your feedback guys! I am just floored by the strength of 1900-2000 players on this site. Taskinen’s link really helped. It’s what I expected. Possibly because USCF ratings are slightly inflated over FIDE ratings the numbers are skewed a bit from our ELO system here in the states.

Thanks again for for the links and input guys. Fantastic! All good players here...and so many! (The states don’t have as many experts and masters as Asia, and especially Europe.) Hope to play you OTB someday.

"0" Fide rating, just amateur, but I have 2000+ in blitz/bullet. With your speculation, if I play OTB, I could possibly be "2200" and become a NM. grin.png

Yes, you can!! Absolutely! Bullit not so much, but blitz ratings of 2000 on this website should be respected. Very good my friend. You must be an excellent player, Let’s play sometime.

My personal estimation is chess.com rating is very close to OTB. 95% of OTB rating would be

1. +/- 300 bullet

2.+/- 200  blitz

3. +/- 100 rapid

Avatar of Preggo_Basashi

It just depends on how much blitz and bullet you play.

A 2200 player who plays blitz/bullet a few hours a day could be 2300-2400 I think, but if they almost never play speed chess, the same guy might be 1900-2000.
