Life is unfair anyway, so what?
Unfair!

1. If a player wants to make more than one line of conditional moves he must be a member to do so.
I'm sorry, how is this an advantage?

Yes, there are plenty of other features provided to encourage people to "cough up the dough". It is called a business business model.
Do you really expect a business to give everthing away for free and "hope" people pay for the fun of it?

Its very simple. When you have a lot of games going you cannot always remember what you plan to do in each game. By using the conditional moves feature, I put in the main variations of the lines I am aiming for. By allowing my opponent to do this but not me, he has a slight advantage.

What I am hearing is that you have a tendancy to play more games than you can handle? Besides, if anything is going to waste time and help you to forget what is going on in your other games it is setting up multiple lines of conditional moves in one...

There is a place in each online game where you can make as many notes as you want. If you are prone to forgetting what you have planned just write the moves down in your notes section, it will take you a WHOPPING 20 seconds to do it.

When you play a game you expect the playing field to be equal. In the instance of online chess this is not entirely so. They can do what they like with all of the other features but where the games are concerned neither side should have the advantage. I am sure the Marquess of Queensberry would agree!

Really? Never really played many games or sports, have you. It is called the "home field advantage".
Didn't playing in India give Anand an "unfair advantage"? His home country, Carlsen had to travel and live in a "strange land" for a couple of weeks.
If you want those perks, pay. Or, start your own chess playing website and use your business model. Good luck with that.

I don't think it gave Anand an advantage since your chess understanding doesn't magically go away just for being in another country.

Hmmm. Maybe the solution is to limit the number of games that free members are allowed to participate in. Then they won't have to worry about forgetting their plans.

I'm sure that Carlsen had no difficulties in playing in India. When you fly in a modern airplane you sit in a comfortable seat and have the option of reading a magazine or watching a movie for a few hours. I'm sure his hotel room was quite comfortable, I don't know the amenities provided by the hotel but I'm sure they did everything to accomodate him since Indian culture is not bound by the cold rules of western society. I've never been to India but I do know some people love it and some people hate it but if he didn't like India itself for any reason he didn't have to step foot on Indian soil since he was whisked by limo from his hotel to the playing hall. Sports stadiums are all built to standards set by the authorities of the sport so they contain no surprises for football or baseball teams and so "home team advantage" is more a myth than reality. The fact remains that if I forget to make my moves or set the vacation mode on, I will lose the game. If a member forgets, his vacation mode is turned on automatically. I did have a paying account but I let it run out because I felt the videos were aimed at masters and grandmasters and not helpful to intermediate players. But I do believe in the interest in fairness the rules governing the actual play of the game should be the same for all players. This is true whether you play in tournaments or chess clubs or in the park for that matter and it should be so for chess.com. I do not intend to quit playing at chess.com over this issue but I do want to protest it. If enough players join with me on this issue maybe it will be changed.

yes, you are right

I agree with DrFrank regarding his second point. Anand didn't get an extra hour for his pondering for being the defending world champion.

mate weather your a member or not chess.com is 3 and you never no weather people cheat anyway so use it for training and remember OTB is the only real chess. Please be relevant, helpful & nice!

It is pretty obvious you don't travel much either. I travel for a living. It does not matter how "comfortable" the seat is, travel wears you out. Staying in hotels wears you out. I have stayed in 5 star hotels across Europe and the Middle East as well as the US and Canada. It does not matter. You are in a strange land and your body take quite a while to get accustomed to it.
You choose not to have the additional features, it would be different if they said you are not allowed to have them.
Pay the money and you get them. Stop whining.
And, Oh, yeah, Fenway Park is EXACTLY like Yankee Stadium, and Madison Square Garden is EXACTLY like the Orlando Arena and the football field where the Green Bay Packers play is EXACTKY like the Seattle Seahawks stadium. I could go on but you are obviously ignorant of this subject.
Online chess on chess.com is unfair because it gives an advantage to paid members in two ways. 1. If a player wants to make more than one line of conditional moves he must be a member to do so. 2. Vacation times comes in automatically for paid members. I believe that both instances gives an advantage in playing the game to the paid members. I know that chess.com exists so as to make money for the owners of the website but doing so should not give advantage in the playing of the actual games. There are plenty of other features that are provided to paid members to encourage people to cough up the dough.
