A player in another forum topic made the comment that, in his experience, opponents will make unnecessary moves just to torment his or her rival. He said this "happens a lot in online chess". This is not my experience, and I don't know if I've run across a single instance of it

Yes, the issue is silly billies who won't resign. In this situation, I once lined an opponent's king on the a file with 7 knights on the d file before cm with a rook on a8. I'm a rubbish chess player, but it was fun. Would rather have played a fresh game, though.
