Unrated games makes you lose rating points?!

I have been playing here on chess com since 2009 and in all that time I played only 1 or 2 unrated games and that was long time ago. Recently in open seeks I saw offer for an unrated game and accepted it in order to have a relaxing game not worring much would I win or lose. I lost that game and realized that I lost 13 rating points?! When I went back to that game and checked details it says rated game?! How can this be? I know too much drama about 13 points lol but I hate to lose 1 point if something isnt right. Did that happen anyone else too?

it could be that it was their first game on chess.com, yes if you lose it is not good for your points

Hey Sonja :)  No, he has around the same rating points as me, which it makes even more strange. Both players 1700+ one loses 13 points which is too high even in rated game after 1000+ played games on chess com.

i have no clue in this case, have necer run across anything like that

most likely when you saw the seek it was against an UNRATED player, not an UNRATED game. Thus the game was rated.

I dont think he was unrated because he has 1700+ rating. He couldnt get that from one game. But it s ok. That was a lesson never to accept unrated games.

LOL, typical example of Q.E.D.

That's probably the right answer. Easy to get confused, especially if you rarely play unrated games.

Than probably I was careless and made that mistake.

LOL ! got wreckt  XD.

No, what I actually think happened: you clicked "search game" and you selected "Rated" and you simultaneously found a game and clicked on it, but the game that opened up was the game you searched.

This has happened to me before, because sometimes the "search" thing keeps going in the background even if AFK, and you have to hit "cancel"

Everything is posible now, all i am sure is that it said -unrated- but maybe it ment unrated player. Anyway what is done is done. I should be more careful next time and by that I mean no more unrated games  lol

Well, it definitely meant unrated player. The players first game was against you. Playing unrated games is no problem at all, no risk involved, unrated players is a different matter.
