Don't get me wrong, I like a free win as much as the next chess player. But as much as I like easy wins, I actually prefer long games where both players play well. Now, I'm sure we've all run into someone that's done this. You're castled kingside. You have your G pawn on the 2nd rank and your H pawn on your 3rd. Your opponent sets up a Bishop/Queen battery. And he stupidly sacrifices his Bishop to get your H and G pawns. Now, there are a large potential of situations where this sacrifice can lead to mate. However, too many times, it seems as though lower-level players just do this for the sake of sacrificing without anything to really take advantage of the exposed King. It just annoys me and makes me wonder "why are you even still playing this game out?" after it fails and I'm able to properly defend and/or just trade queens. And usually just keep trading after that, leading to a relatively easy endgame after I set up a blockade.
I don't know why annoys me so much, but it does. I guess it IS a weapon that can be used so effectively that it annoys me quite a bit when my opponent uses it without any kind of thought on any kind of continuation that would put him ahead.
