Unspoken Chess Rules

We all know how the pieces move, am I right? We all know the basic rules of the game, probably.

Please share unspoken chess rules here. I will begin on post 2 and attempt to update post two with other chess rules...depending on the position...🥴

1. Do not initiate trades when you are down material.

2. Unspoken Chess Rules are simply rules and, hence, will have exceptions.

3. If you make a literal list of unspoken chess rules they are no longer unspoken.

4. Obey opening principles (protect all pieces and do not move any pieces twice in the opening)

Don't offer draws when you're losing.

Always play the London.

Not always true, it depends on the exact situation.

Random game I just made up, but it illustrates the example.

I should also say. What may be painfully obvious to some (like rule #1) may help another chess player along the way. So please share you simplest rules as well as lofty ideas.

Check beforehand if jeans are allowed

Well, eldest, as the other (non chess) rule states there are exceptions to every rule.

If we want one objective rule we can say "chess is good" but even that could be hotly debated or flat out debunked, dare I say. Or "depends on the position" is another one but that leaves some room for interpretation.

You only need 2:

#1. Know the basic rules of how to play well.

#2. Know when to ignore those rules.

This is why chess is hard.

I dated a chic from New York City, we met playing chess in Central Park. That's what she said.

In hope this thread does not die a slow, agonizing death, I ask for help.

See post #2...Rules 5 and 6 could be middle and end game rules. I honestly don't know if middle and endgame have any hard set rules?

My first, uh, shot ..

5. Middlegame gets quite complicated. "To take is a mistake"

6. Keep your eyes open for checkmate. DO NOT miss checkmate.
