Unusual Chess Position Collection

Hi,

I am collecting chess positions from actual play where following a natural-looking move leads to the wrong solution, and the correct solution is actually a weird-looking move that contradicts the general theory.

If you happen to come across such positions (either from your own games or others), please post here. I am sure that it will benefit everybody.

Thanks.

Most puzzles are exactly what you describe. Of course, the tricky part is finding ones from real games.

If it is a matter of simply wanting unusual positions to study,to help you get used to finding solutions that aren't ordinary, I recommend finding some chess960 games posted in the chess 960 forum and looking at them carefully. The position is already out of the ordinary and really makes you think how to play. You don't normally have the benefit of memory while playing 960 as compared to regular chess.

Thanks for the reply. I found these little gems from WGM Natalia Pogonina's blog. The positions are re-posted here for convenience, but for a complete article please go to here.

The games are annotated by WGM Pogonina.

My chess coach gave me this today. This is all I could come up with.
