I've already got my party hat on : )
Tetsuo, either contribute to the linguistics discussion or be quiet.
He's incapable of that, he would start an argument in an empty house...he could give an asprin a headache : )
Yes, strong regional accents are difficult to understand, even for us Brits.
Dinna fash yersel lassie : )
I don't mind user TetsuoShima. He/she speaks his mind and sometimes has good things to say, even if you have to decode the very strong opinions to get to it. When he said the girl would open a nail studio, you don't have to take it so literally and be offended by it. Calling a girl like this "the next Bobby Fischer" is a huge leap, and probably not a very good idea. I believe Tetsuo just meant it's a big possibility that her career will fall to the wayside for something else. It's impossible for that girl to really know what she wants at such a young age. I liked the comparison to Waitzkin. Although, none of us really know what will happen.
Have a good vacation from the forums. :)
Tets main problem is that extreme ignorance and very pronounced opinions on one subject is a bad combination.
If she was not a girl, "tets" may not have minded the comparison.
Perhaps, but it is true that girls are 100x less likely to get into a chess career than men. Even a very good male player at the age of 9 has a slim chance of actually making it a career. I'm not standing up for everything TetsuoShima said, but I see the point he was making (or at least, trying to make). Maybe if it was a boy, Tetsuo would have said he would end up opening a martial arts clinic.
Expert is very very far from being a top grandmaster, regardless of age!
The "point" TetsuoShima was trying to make, as always, is that he feels women are inferior to men, DrCheckevertim. That's a great ship to sink with...

I didn't see him say that anywhere. He compared her to waitzkin, who is a male player. Waitzkin showed promise at a young age, was said by some to be "the next Fischer," and eventually dropped chess for something else in the professional world.

Can't say as I agree...from the Gospel according to Tetsuo', "Thou shalt have no Gods before Fischer." : )

He makes this claim all-the-time. Here's an example:

I don't know how this young girl, or the other youngsters mentioned in the posts learned the game, but look at all the educational opportunities that exist now that didn't exist 25 years ago:
You can play people all over the world without leaving your home
Online courses, online master games with annotations, and online tournaments with live commentary (like the Candidates a few months ago) are plentiful
Chess databases are available, sometimes for free
Given all this, isn't it logical that we would expect a new wave of young people to take advantage of all this, and the talented, motivated, and hard working among them would rise to expert level more quickly than decades ago? I would look forward to many young players being competative at the top level in coming years.
I think that not only is it logical and therefore to be expected, but inevitable if you stop to think about it.
