USCF Norms

I achieved an A Class rating in 2009, but did not have the first category title until 2018. In the event that gave me my fifth norm, I tied for first in a weekend Swiss. Three of my norms were from events where I placed first. One was an event where I placed second, winning four games of four played but took a bye. IM John Donaldson was first in that event.

No.. the easy explanation by uscf is you have to do very good for an A class player. And at the very minimum have a performance above 1900. If you wanted a first category norm you likely would have needed to beat the 1900 player and drawn the 2000 at minimum. Does this help?

performence rating as what rating u played like in a tournament, estimated rating is what you think ur rating wil be at the end of a tournament

you can use a rating calculater or see it on a website such as caissa xhess

One question, if you are 1200+, but then you get kicked below 1200, are you still in the 4th Category?

It's similar to titles. Once you have it you don't lose it.
