Having played under both for a long time I would like to point out some differences regarding the rules in tournament play . In USCF tournaments using a sudden death time control when a player has under 5 minutes left he may stop keeping score, and so can his opponent even if the opponent has more than 5 minutes left . Â Under FIDE rules the one under 5 minutes may stop keeping score but his opponent must keep score until he is also under 5 minutes . I prefer FIDE rules in this instance which makes much more sense imo.Â
