About how close is USCF/FIDE ratings to chess.com ratings (turn based)? I know our chess.com ratings are inflated (on the most part), but by how much?

Inflation is an interesting concept. Arpad Elo designed his system around an average rating of 1500. What is the average rating here?

I think its around that... not sure. Anyone here know to check the average rating here for turn based chess?

1370, but I think that's more due to lots of players joining and then leaving, but not yet being considered 'inactive'. Either way, chess.com ratings are a good few hundred points above FIDE or USCF, at least at sub-2000. It starts getting closer when you reach and exceed this rating- those at the top are probably fairly close.

However, some people are really good at correspondance (where they have days and days to think of a move) compared to OTB, where they perhaps panic. And so, even those ratings at the top could be considered inflated.

The main thing to realise is that there is probably little correlation. Sure, as your turn-based rating increases your OTB MAY increase (not necessarily, it depends how you play online) but there is no proportionality in the increase.

Play menu : Online Chess

then View Players.

Thanks Nytik. How in the world did you find the average?

I agree with you... I think at least a few hundred. All of my OTB rated games (as of now..19) have been game/30 and shorter... I do know what it is to "panic" when low on time...lol.

It is simply uncomparable because they are simply different games. Blitz, Otb and online chess are in a different league and you need different skill for it imo. No offense but a high rating doesn't mean anything here imo if you don't have a high otb rating too, only thing what matters is the real life rating otb. I mean what is the point when you got a high rating here, but loose(cause of inexperience, or the lack of dealing with time and pressure otb) against some 1700 otb player. And it will happen trust me ;) Also i'm pretty sure like 90% is using the cheat bord(analyse board) to calculate the moves, in otb you need to visualize/calculate in the mind...
