use of database on daily chess
This has been discussed a lot. Your reaction is understandable but this is actually a non-issue once you realize that daily chess is not live or OTB chess but rather "correspondence chess" where players get to study their moves and use whatever resources they wish as long as they are not using an engine or other people to tell them what moves to make. It's more like an "open book” exam vs a “closed book” exam.
The reason I say it shouldn't be an issue for anyone who plays daily chess as if it where live chess, is because it is immaterial what someone else’s daily chess rating is compared to their actual live or OTB rating. If a daily player has a 1700 rating in daily chess it is because they are playing like a 1700 player, even if they are not truly a 1700 player. Or put it this way: When you are playing against a 1700 rated player (or any other rating for that matter) there is typically no external way to tell if that person is using resources or not.
So, you can either 1) choose to assume that the person is using resources and feel that you are being disadvantaged, or 2) choose to not worry about the other person and simply play the board. At the end of the day your own rating, and how you like to play and learn, is all that is important.
In any event, if a person is blindly using the openings database they are probably going to get crushed in the middle game anyway as they won’t understand the purpose of the moves.
Yes, database use is legal in Daily Chess.

There are some groups that agree not to use the allowed resources. I don't know all of them but one is https://www.chess.com/club/circle-of-trust-otb
Barcaroli wrote: Dear all, It was recently brought to my attention that daily players are using database to play the game, following the most knowing lines to the letter. First of all, is this legal? If so, feels wrong to me. I feel like I'm in desadvantage by not using it. But I simply don't want to use it. How can I find players that I know don't use it? I'm sorry if this is out of topic or has been already discussed. I appreciate replies. Cheers No worries. If they are using an engine to play, then that means that they feel that they aren't good as a player.
