Are you in a hurry to win? Ultimately your opponent will run out of time. Let it run its course.
Vacation in a lost position
Your opponent may play lots of games simultaneously. He may take vacation because of a lack of time during the upcoming days (for whatever reason) and he doesn't want to lose all the games on time. The fact that he is in a lost position in the game against you may be just a coincidence.
What's the hurry? You'll get your win in the end.
Hurry? The opponent may use three months of vacation time! I've had games where my opponent signed up for a tournament and then didn't make a move, but he used three months of vacation making me wait to win for no rating points and made everyone in the tournament wait three months for the second round to begin.
I'm currently in two tournaments waiting for the 2nd round to begin because someone used nearly three months of vacation time, then began playing at a slow pace. The first round of the tournaments began on September 22 and November 12 of 2017 and we're still waiting for the 2nd round to begin.

I usually enter no vacation tournaments. Unfortunately that's just the way it is with tournaments that allow for vacation, they can take years to complete.

It is what I am talking about. This is absolutely ridiculous, it has nothing to do with taking vacation time because it doesn't have time, but only to drive everybody crazy. And chess.com is looking and doesn't react. I will see if I can find another website to play Daily Chess where just things are not possible.
The player in the game that inspired me to start this thread wrote me. He said he didn't have the time to login here in chess.com so that website declared his games as in vacation. I apologize for my complaints, as this opponent was always very fair with me. I didn't know that chess.com can set games as "in vacation", this can lead to misunderstaing.
Join a no vacation tournament then. I don't think there's any evidence that "most" vacation use is abuse. Also, some people slow down because they think their opponent is a cheater who might be banned. One last thing to think about is that the vacation use might not have anything to do with your game. When people go on vacation they do so in all of their games, so they might be thinking about a different game entirely, not the one with you.
I believe for premium accounts, chess.com automatically sets a player on vacation instead of timing out. (Obviously only if they have vacation time available.)
If I was czar of chess.com I would a. shorten the allowable vacation time to something like 3 weeks and b. insert a no-vacation time such as twice the amount of the vacation time taken for the period immediately after the end of a vacation period. Example, a player who took a one week vacation can't take vacation again for a two week period.
I think there is an option to open games (open seeks) without allowing vacation time. It's your choice.

I read about this, but it didn't happen to me yet. Now I have it: I am a rook up in an endgame and my opponent is playing one move and making vacation afterwards.
I heard that this is often used to frustrate the opponent.
I never took vacation here. Actually I even don't know how to do this. If I know I will not have time in the next weeks or months I just don't start a new game.
Judging from what I read already here about the abuse of taking vacation in lost positions (and not sending any message about this) I am surprised that chess.com is not doing anything to improve this.
This is the kind of thing where you start to think about quitting chess here and play in a website where such kind of systematic abuse and lack of fairness is not possible.
