Not against the rules to take vacation time. There are rules however about language. Just a thought.
If you think the vacation feature is being abused by a particular player then simply select the report abuse button from the bottom of each page.

This is the most craziest post I seen. As stated before Its not against the rule PERIOD! This feature is great. There is a limit on vacation use for all players. If a person use all his vacation time then he will lose on time PERIOD! This is a nice incentives for paying members. You don't have to play turn-base at all. You can just stick to playing Live chess if you are so concern winning on time!
I agree completely with the original post. The clock is supposed to play a factor in the overall strategy and outcome of the game, and with this feature, what's the point of even having a clock? And Sensfan33, I would hope that after getting hit by a car you would have bigger worries than your online chess games.
LIVE CHESS! LIVE CHESS! CLOCK! CLOCK!
i don't get the sense that he's venting. why would he post it if he didn't mean it? some of these words are strong but i think the point is made pretty well. i simply call it horse shit. call it what you want.
1) Do not always call it what you want. Good sportsmanship and manners do not allow this.
2) Making judgements about the character of your opponents based on the fact that you have to wait a little longer before making a move, is just ignorant. Unless you know the circumstances, which I'd be surprised if one ever did.
3) If you find you just have to believe the worst about your opponents, the least you can do not publicly defame them.
4) Really, how much of a hardship is this to you that you absolutely cannot stay silent about this horrible injustice anymore. The melodrama of the original post is just laughable. As if this issue is a challenge to the worth of the great game of chess.
If someone says something interesting, I'll resond, but I think I'm in danger of just repeating myself so I'll go do something else now.

please do. you're silly. that's manners for ya.
But it is still just a game in the end and i have plenty more to deal with so why worry urself to much if some have vacationed. In fact i have had a fair few either time out or go vacation on me. No big deal to me really. :-)
The funny thing is I see this "It's just a game " comment many times from the very people that bend over backwards looking for every cheap trick in the book not to lose the very game they're downplaying the importance of. If you truly believe it's just a game and nothing more, then all the more reason to see the absurdity of what some people are doing to avoid losing it.
It's not cheating, but paying members are playing by a different set of rules.
Sure. They also have easy access to databases, better engine analysis post game just to mention a couple things.
And you decide to play them.
Most of my games come from tournaments, so no, I do not choose who I play. If Erik offered an ultra premium membership wherein the member starts every game with an extra piece, would that be fair? Not likely, so why is it fair for one to purchase more time?
Wrong! I still want a good game i just don't always have the time to play it especially if my work gets so much i don't get much of it or i have a family emergency. Just because it is just a game doesn't mean i don't want that game to be good or worthwhile other wise i just wouldn't bother playing at all.
I do see how some people do use it more then it seems needed but i don't assume they are being unethical because as i said i don't know the reason for it.
Using a preset vacation for when your clock is about to run out is completely unethical and represents a low standard of chess sportsmanship. For those unfamiliar with it, if your time is almost up, the "vacation" option kicks in for those paying members who choose to click this "save me from my own mismanagement of the clock" feature.
No clicking required for the auto-timeout protection feature.
No clicking eh?You got me there! But don't you mean the wussy don't hurt me I was breast fed from my father feature?
we understand that it's nice for the person about to lose all the games. that's not what we're talking about. even though i love morrissey.
it's just stupid that there's an option for auto vacation. we all get that it helps people not lose games that they're ignoring.
The rules ,terms and conditions of this site are not a secret. There are advantages that go with premium membership and they are well known to all who have taken the time to read of them.
If you knew of these things before you started to play in this venue, then you have no valid reason to complain.
If you did not know of them before you started to play here, then you have no one to blame but yourself since the advantages of premium membership are well advertised and the rules of competition are clearly stated.
Therefore,in the latter case also, you have no valid cause for complaint.
For me it takes effect that day! I havent had the actual auto vacation done yet. Just the ones i got to my account and click on it option. Which i dont like doing unless i feel its needed.
we get that people use it. and we get that it's nice for people who want to ignore their game. what we are saying is that it's stupid that chess.com allows.
WE KNOW YOU USE IT. WE KNOW IT'S HELPFUL FOR THOSE OH SO BUSY DAYS. WE KNOW WE KNOW WE KNOW.
sensfan33, if you get hit by a car, losing some online chess games should be the least of your worries.
Thats like suggesting if you get hit by a car you should just abandon everything you enjoy...
Like the other people says 'vacations' is not cheating. First it's not against the rule. That is a part of being a premium member.
Also how about if you are a busy person and you've not been in chess.com for a while? Do you think you'll be happy to lose points because you lost on time?
People sign up for a premium membership because on of its good feature which is having long vacation and automatically will save when your time is running out. Basically they don't want to lose points on a silly reason which run out of time? You should know that the rating points determine how good you are in chess.
