9 is the classical value though others have been posited. You probably ran into one of the oddball valuations.

The Queen is normaly worth 9.
This is correct, although on Tuesdays it is worth ten. This is probably the source of confusion.
...and if it's crowded behind a bunch of pawns while a mating net is descending upon its king, it's worth 0.
Otherwise, I've heard 9 more often than not.
Strangely enough, I recall a video or an article or on here by a GM who mentioned that in the endgame, a queen in the hands of a GM is more deadly than 2 rooks (=10 points). Don't know why, but then I'm no GM. ??
I guess he thought he thought he was some sort of god.
Haven't heard anything else but 9.
On a related matter. The minor pieces are said to have a value of 3.25 pawns instead of the normal 3. This was determined with the help of computers evaluated many games. I can't help being a little bit proud that humans determined it to be 3 a long time ago. Can't get any closer than that.
This is probably a dumb question. I took a year or so off from playing chess online. I thought that the Queen used to be valued at 10 points and now it's 9. Was I wrong in ever thinking it was 10 or is it being changed to 9 a somewhat recent development?
