Who understands percentile? What does it mean to be in the 60% percentile or 93% percentile?
Avatar of Forgetful_Guy

60% percentile means that you surpass 60% of people in elo

Yes. You surpassed 93% of people on chess.com. including people who resign immediately, inactive accounts (which there are many), secondary accounts and throwaway accounts.

So in other words it doesn't mean much. I want to know what my level of chess is based on my ELO. Any sort of way to indicate your level? Am I beginner/intermediate / advanced level or am I average, above average etc? How would I know or find out?

Average player is around 800 to 900.

It really depends on what is your beginner/intermediate/advance.

People who knows most of theories are 1400 to 1500

People who started playing chess is around 400 ish.

People who play and win money are above 2200 ish.

Thanks for this! I'm trying to get a base understanding

I started at 1200. I have gone down to around 1100 and currently around 1400 mark.

So I'm just above average/intermediate level chess player. Thats a fair conclusion right? At 1425 I'm intermediate and the professionals are ones above 2200
