That's good to hear. I grew up in Manhattan but moved out to San Francisco. Any time I'm in New York, that is the first place I go. Many people don't realize what a rich chess history the park has. Thanks for posting the news!
Washington Square park open for business
Just go back from week holiday in NY. My 11 year old son had a game with a guy named "Lashawn" which was a complete mismatch of course (Lashawn said he was 2350!) but he gave him a good long lesson mach afterwards and since then I'm having great trouble holding my own against the boy. Great experience and a great character.
After being closed for a very long time Washingron Square park is again open for chess players, just in time for the warm weather. If you're free stop by the south west corner of Washington Square and see if you can get a few games from the locals.
