waste time reading forums - OR - study the game?

I spend too much time on these forums when I could be more productive.

I agree.  The forums here are not really geared toward helping you with chess, as they seem more about giving the members a place to argue about silly topics, troll each other, and spout off general nonsense.  These forums are more like /4chan or the Wikipedia message boards with just a thin veneer of "chess."

Now what do you intiutively think is more instructive?  Reading a peer edited and published book by a World Champion (Lets say "My 60 best games" by Fischer), or a 800-post long thread about how the 1.e4 2.Qh5 opening "PWNS"?

I feel like the understanding of my game has regressed immensely since I discovered these forums.

See, what you gotta do is open up three tabs, a video, chess mentor/tactics trainer, and the forum.. Then you can waist all day and still be productive. :P

To old to multi-task - just looking for the secret to wining chess.

Join a chess club, as the players there are likely to be strong solid players.

It will help you to play more solid chess and improve your game fairly quickly. These forums do very little to help, but the online videos and Chess Mentor lessons are quite instructive.

I personally got a lot out a program called Chess Master, try it out.
