WCC location is unfair to Caruana

I'm not sure why people claim Fabi isn't American. He was born in the U.S.  Most of his life he's been in the U.S.  85% of his chess development happened in the U.S.  He even has a U.S. accent.  Heck, he probably even likes apple pie, baseball, etc.

Racism, plain and simple.

You can't buy British culture in a jar! Get yourselves to London and get some decent beer down yah!

He actually holds dual nationality.

Italy is not so far from England. What are you speaking of?

jelmersandburg

If we would live in the middle ages the distance would be a big problem. Now with first class flights, months of planning ahead there would not be a problem if we talk distance.

yeah, which maybe makes him an US-American as well as an Italian. The statement "Fabi is not an US-American", which I've heard multiple times, is completely wrong at best, highly racist at worst.

easy there h4_explosive, its maybe just some good humoured trolling.

@jemelsanburg One would argue that the distance would play a factor due to differing time-zones and expenses for the trip, in this particular scenario expenses are negligible, however the differences between the time-zones would have a more significant effect on players that lived further away.

The time zones playing a factor due to jetlag?

Agreed.

Plus, all these top players spend their whole careers traveling from country to country to play chess. I'm sure Caruana isn't bothered by the flight distance.

He probably plans to reach London at least a week in advance, and will likely have his laptop open, running through his repertoire, on the flight over.

Obviously, the only fair solution is to play up to 3 points in Norway or USA, and then vice versa. Then if it is still a tie, they do Chess 960 right at the gravesite of Bobby Fischer.

Oh paper sheet. STOP IMPROVING UPON ARGONAVIS IDEAS.

It's not an improvement by any means, one cannot trust Muricans to follow the rules when playing in their home soil. The match should be played in a neutral place, and so far Mars is the only contender

Unfair was Anand, the defending champion, having to play in Sofia Bulgaria against Topalov.

I have no problem with the defending champion playing in his home country.

But London is a neutral site for Caruana and Carlsen. Both players are familiar with the city, and neither is a resident of the city.

Sounds better than enduring some Adam Sandler movies, like me on the flight to Mexico.

Strangemover

Perhaps Fabiano's flight will have the PlayMagnus app installed on the in flight entertainment package.

I love apple pie. Baseball, I don't even understand what are they doing though.

That’s not a nice thing to say. Country of origin has nothing to do with individual integrity.  Unless someone is in Spain, but every other country you can’t just distrust someone due to nationality.

Dsmith42

Caruana is as at home in Europe as he would be anywhere else - he lived in Italy for quite a while.  Besides, they speak English (not Norwegian) in London.  This is about as close to a neutral site as you could expect, all things considered.

Geodexic

I hope telepathic is not exist.

@ TheTacticalMagician, Anand was too old when he played Carlsen and Karjakin was never 2800, but Caruana was 2800 and very dangerous player. Carlsen doesn't do well under pressure, 12 games match doesn't leave for mistakes and one game can decided the match. Caruana is the favor, he is younger and hungrier for the title.

I know I should not feed the troll, but here I go..

Carlsen have not lost a playoff since 2006 when he lost in the candidates to Aronian, since then he won countless tournaments, 3 times WC and about 12 playoffs, how is that not doing well under pressure? tongue.png  He chokes abit in Norway Chess and choked abit last couple of rounds of London Candidates 5 years ago, exept for that he been cold as ice his whole career

Thus disproving that a neutral site is London or based on distance. Unless its a perfect neutral site then we cant say its neutral. So it would be a site where neither is proven to better or worse off.

Because everything else is just a belief its neutral you see. People say its neutral, but how do we know that for certain? Its just their belief. Until its proven 100% to be neutral, its a totally subjective opinion.
