Why in the world do I last longer in a game against a grandmaster than a 1600 player? Because against a grandmaster it's all about positioning and then moving in for the kill, while for a lower rated player, the game is about tricks and traps, and quick wins. I prefer the master game!

Indeed. The better the player, the more important the certainty of winning as opposed to being victorious quickly or prettily,

I used to play much too defensively - especially as Black - and it cost me.  Now I'm playing too aggressively for my skill level and it works more often against lower rated players than higher rated ones and it's shortening a lot of games and turning draws or wins to losses more often than not.

But it's all part of the fun of chess to me!  I'm learning, like a puppy who gets his nose rubbed into his indoor droppings to teach it to go outside!  Hopefully, within a year I'll find the right balance and play better and that's what makes it fun!
