Website that explains chess to beginners?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good website or page that does a good job of explaining the rules of chess for absoulute beginners?

I just want to show some people on another forum I participate in how to play chess. And who knows hopefully a few of them will even join chess.com

Thanks for any suggestions!

That's perfect, thank you!

I should have figured there would be something here on chess.com Laughing

And it's probably better than other sites, with those interactive boards so people can see how the pieces move.

Thanks again zembrianator!

Thanks granitoman, another good one!

I frequently finds use for some of the free materials at http://www.professorchess.com/index.html, and everything at http://www.rockfordchess.org/instruction/index.htm is free. The Rockford, Illinois chess club offers some of the best handouts that I have seen. I keep a stack of their explanation of en passant in my chess bag.

Thanks Ziryab!

I was looking at the coaching feature, say I wanted to coach some friends and host them here on chess.com, I would need a premium membership right, but would the students?

They might choose a premium membership on their own eventually, but that would be nice if they didn't have to be to attend lessons.

I don't think that your students need premium.
