Wei Yi = Hikaru Nakamura?

16 year old, Wei Yi (2734), who was the winner of what some have dubbed the Game of the Decade/Century, has been rising in the FIDE ratings rapidly.

1.)  How brilliant are his games?

2.)  How can his style be best described?

3.)  Is he a Hikaru Nakamura clone?

4.)  Is his rise comparable to Magnus Carlsen's?

Maybe if they had some Red Bull they could keep their skills sharp and avoid petering out.

I don't care about him as much as others and I don't think any player, no matter how skillful, should get that much attention.

Regarding 4), his rise to the top has actually been a lot faster than Carlsen's. Wei Yi has broken records for youngest ever player to break 2600 and 2700.

Well... Magnus Carlsen gets more attention than him, and you're saying that any player shouldn't get that much attention. So is Magnus Carlsen getting too much attention?

Does Wei Yi currently get an inordinate amount of attention?  I hadn't heard of him until this year's "Game of the Decade/Century."  Although, I'm not a hardcore chess fan, so I wouldn't have followed his rise through the lower ranks.

It's true that Magnus gets a tremendous amount of attention.  I think in the U.S. that Hikaru Nakamura often gets a lot of talk (possibly more than Magnus) in the chess world.  Magnus, however, does seem to have his "celebrity" recognized beyond the chess world, as even non-chess players may have heard of him.

The whole discussion about attention, however, is besides the point for me.  I'm more interested in gauging Wei Yi as a player.

Although, I can't help but also wonder if he's also progressing at or above the rate that Carlsen did.

I was just laughing in my mind earlier that at this rate, we might have a 9 year old super GM sometime in the future.  Tongue Out  Kids these days are getting crazy good.
