Bughouse: A 4-player 2v2 variant of chess where two sets of two players play against each other on a separate board. The boards are opposite so that one person plays as White and their teammate plays as Black. Both sets of players play their own game at their own pace; they even play with their own separate timers, which are typically quite short.
When a piece is captured, the player who made the capture gives that piece to their teammate, who may place it (almost) anywhere on their board on their turn and use it as though it is their own. As a result, it is entirely possible for one player to have four bishops, two queens, four rooks, etc. if the person on the other side plays badly enough. Communication between players is usually allowed as well, which typically only adds to the chaos.
The game ends when a player on either board loses. The opposing player and their teammate automatically win the game, notwithstanding how the other game might be going.
Crazyhouse is pretty much the same as Bughouse, only it's a simple 1v1 game. All other standard chess rules still apply.
