Hey guys, I don't have any friends on chess.com, but what do they do for you? Do they give you special advantages? Can you communicate with them through text? I'm new to this app,so please help. Thanks!

just challenge him/her an unrated match! @Lucia1314 There isn't any '' special advantage '' of having friends. But ofcourse you can have some advantages of having 'higher rated friends' as they can help you to improve your chess .
Having a friend here means that you would like to play with him /her frequently and he'll get notified when you make a blog post or start a new thread. You can make good friends here.
