They aren't bots. It's either 1 player with a lot of alts, or the similar usernames are all just coincidence.

I don't think that there is only one man who controls all of this mess. It's almost impossible to make some big amount of accounts everyday, play on them with different opening preferences and demonstrate different levels of skill. On these screenshots, I typed "w-z" and "z_w", and there are way more nicknames starting with these combinations. Try another combination, and you will probably find hundreds of them. There is no way that it's all made by one no-lifer, unless he generates these and playing on these not by hand.

Interesting suggestion. At first I thought these might be participants of some club. But they're very separated. None of them have friends. There are some rare cases when two accounts of this kind played a game and I never see these doing that more than once. Some accounts playing in an expert range, some are alike people who never played chess before, and some don't have any games. Although, this may turn out to be some kind of strange chess flash mob.

I also think that these nicknames are rather automatically generated than human-made. Unfortunately, I didn't chat with one of these accounts during the game. I will try to message to few of most active ones and if they will reply, I will post that on this forum.

I noticed another strange phenomenon. Sometimes these accounts can play the game while being literally offline.

This is the example, and if you want, you can find another one. Today is 18th November, and there are some games at 17 Nov and 18 Nov on this particular profile. But the last time it was online is 4 days ago (or 14th November). This is the detail that I had seen only on accounts of this type.

It's not alts either. It has to do with one of the ways chess can be played on site. It's similar to guest accounts but through a different process.
