What are your process of finding the most nettlesome (troublesome) moves?

They said part of Magnus's success can be attributed to him finding the nettlesome moves. Which are moves that may not necessarily be the best but causes the most trouble or room for error for his opponents. I feel like I play too simple, and my opponent can easily find the best replies. Want to add a little spice to my playing.

you are talking about strategy. strategies are like long term tactics, you said carlsen not playing the best move but causing the most trouble. he actually 'is' playing the best move but not always in tactical manners.
