Hahaha!
Rating doesn't matter as long as you enjoy the game. But if you regularly play below your strength that will surely improve your rating however if you really want to improve play 100/150 points above your own rating.
The rule of thumb I use is whatever my current rating is +200 (my rating at the time of evaluation, not posting).

This.
Actually, that has been my thing too: 200 above whatever I am. So, two and a half years ago, that would be 1500, now it is like 2300-2400.
And what about when you all started here at chess dot com with 1200 rating? Was good player only 1400 for you then?
I think it must be over 2000 because anything below says you are only a part time amatur.
If a player can play difficult endgames (correctly) at blitz speed then they are (or at least may be) a good chess player.
If their wins are just from handling the time limit better and pouncing on their opponent's blunders we can't be as confident of this - though we can at least say that they are a good blitz player.
No blitz rating leads me to say that he or she is a good chess player. However, I recognize anyone 200+ higher than me as a good blitz player until I prove otherwise.
What live blitz rating makes you say 'he is a good chess player'?
When I start chess dot com I said that to get back to maybe 1200 would be good, then I got to 1300 and now I am look at 1800 players and think 'wow they must be real good chess player'.
So not thinking of your own rating what do you think a 'good chess player' rating should be in live blitz?
I don't mean grand meister or any titled player but for some body who play chess for a hobby, what is a good rating?
Blitz isnt real chess. For me, only standard rating is relevant to judge about someone s strength.
I say he or she is a good chess player if they can drink a bottle of wine and win me
I think that you are easier to win if you're the one drinking the wine. As for beating you at chess, I think one or two bourbons or one good bottle of wine helps me with my rodent control.
in my opinion blitz rating does not reveal your real strength , as the time control is very limited you must have a good memory and think fast and you should manage your time very well . have a look at your stats in the android app , in my case for example i have a blitz rating of about 1450 , and chess.com stats says that i am better than 88% of other registered blitz players , so i am kind of satisfied with it .

Rodent control?? Wait, hold on for a second! Are you calling me a rodent?
