I was curious what people would say and the conversation started saying 200+ your current to drinking a bottle of wine lol

Actually, that has been my thing too: 200 above whatever I am. So, two and a half years ago, that would be 1500, now it is like 2300-2400.

Wow, that’s some pretty incredible progress. What have you done to grow that fast?

Anyway, I agree with what others have said, my own rating +200.

He made that post over 5 years ago so... don't know if he'll see your question.

If we are talking about amateur, normal life people with other hobbies or professions besides chess and other chores, then 1600 is above average and pretty good. Anywhere from 1600 -1800 is very good

Wow, what a blast from the past. It's also a bit sad as it looks like I have only improved about 200 points in the 5 years since I made that post.

When I started out I just did a lot of tactics puzzles. I really think you can get to at least 1800 but focusing almost exclusively on tactics. I also did get to play in tournaments which helps a lot. I find it sort of difficult to go back and analyze online games but that is a huge step to improvement.

2500 blitz, to me, is when you could say, "Yeah, he/she is definitely a good player."

When I start chess dot com I said that to get back to maybe 1200 would be good, then I got to 1300 and now I am look at 1800 players and think 'wow they must be real good chess player'.

So not thinking of your own rating what do you think a 'good chess player' rating should be in live blitz?

I don't mean grand meister or any titled player but for some body who play chess for a hobby, what is a good rating?

Blitz isnt real chess. For me, only standard rating is relevant to judge about someone s strength.

On the contrary Blitz shows what a player can do in a limited time frame not only pulling from strategy but also concentration and quick thinking. I think it's actually a better picture of a person's Chess playing skills than an alternative. For example if you played day by day there is more room to analyze and therefore for all you know your opponent could be running the game through a program to come out on top. In a real war the winner isn't the one who analyzes the most it's the one who can think quickly and act accordingly.

It is relative:
Good = better than me
Bad = worse than me
